When you imagine some of the world’s best beaches, you probably think of one of the top beaches in Southeast Asia. In this corner of the world, islands and coastlines stretch into the seas between the Pacific and Indian Oceans, offering various types of coastal landscapes that present numerous opportunities for activities like surfing and diving. Common among many of these fine coastal stretches are the azure skies, deep blue waters, and swaying palms we dream of when we think of a sunny and sandy paradise.
First, a quick lesson for the uninitiated. Southeast Asia consists of 11 countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and Myanmar, which make up the mainland part of Southeast Asia—meaning they are connected by land to the Asian continent; as well as the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, and East Timor, which comprise the archipelagic maritime countries in the region. With a coastline worth literally hundreds of thousands, it’s impossible to create a truly comprehensive list of all the best beaches in Southeast Asia, but here is a collection of our editors’ favorites. All you need is a flight to Asia to get there. (Okay, okay, maybe two flights. But you’ll probably enjoy a fun layover at some of the world’s best airports like Changi Airport in Singapore or Hong Kong International Airport.)
From remote spots with fine sand to easily accessible shores offering a break from nearby urban chaos, here are nine of the best beaches in Southeast Asia—plus where to stay nearby. Pack your beach towels and sunscreen.

White Beach, Boracay, Philippines
Occupying nearly half the length of Boracay Island, the iconic White Beach is the pride and joy of the Philippines. Its sand is as soft as the finest powdered sugar, and the shallows are so expansive that swimming in the waters feels like wading in a massive kiddie pool. There’s plenty to do here—sail on local paraws (sailing boats) and visit the countless restaurants, bars, and shops located along the beach’s perimeter. Local laws enforce that businesses cannot build less than 30 meters (about 100 feet) from the water, ensuring a vast sandy strip where anyone can lay a blanket and soak up the sun. The flight to Boracay from the Philippine capital of Manila takes just an hour, making paradise easily accessible.
